Technology Coordinator's Message

Dear Students, Parents, and Teachers:

Student learning is the CIC Technology Department’s most fundamental goal. With our talent, expertise, and passion, we support our students in their learning each and every day through our carefully designed technology program. Our Nursery through Secondary School technology program is standards-based, age appropriate, and focused on student learning.

We have adopted the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) for Students (2007). These standards assure that our students receive the best technology education possible and one that is measured against international standards.

We tailor our technology program for each student: from the youngest to the oldest. For example, our Early Childhood students have age-appropriate mice that fit their little hands. These Mickey Mouse mice make learning not only fun for the students but comfortable. As the students grow, our technology program grows along with them.

Through Elementary School, the students experience technology projects that are tied to their regular classroom learning. A Fifth Grade Computer Planet Project is thoughtfully planned with the Fifth Grade science teacher to insure that the students not only understand the scientific concepts but know how to communicate them using the tools of technology.

In the Secondary School, our Middle School students learn to master Microsoft Office before they move up to High School, where they have a wide range of technology courses: Graphic Design, Digital Video and Audio, Digital Animation, Digital Photography, Web Design, and Yearbook. And our students only use what the professionals use: Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign; Adobe Video Collection: Premiere Pro, After Effects, Encore, and Audition; and Adobe/Macromedia Studio 8: Dreamweaver, Fireworks, and Flash.

In our most recent 2006 SACS accreditation report, students, parents, and teachers gave an exceptional approval rating of our world-class Technology Department. However, each day the CIC Technology Department strives to do even a better job to have each student learn to enjoy, understand, and master today’s technology and be able to apply this learning well into the future.
