Director's Message

Dear Students, Parents, and Teachers,

The Colegio Internacional de Carabobo as all effective schools everywhere, is conscious that ethical behaviors are essential in the personal and social development of the student. Issues such as character and citizenship, rights, responsibilities, ethics and values are present in our integrated curriculum. Both parents and school share the responsibilities of affecting the way students think, feel, and behave, concerning issues of right and wrong. As a school, honored by the trust of parents, we accept the shared commitment to complement the parent’s role of developing citizens provided with ethics and character.

At CIC, we believe that in addition to the education children receive at home, it is our responsibility to provide our students with a moral compass. We care that students develop good habits of living as well as good habits of learning. This caring is reflected in the way we treat students and in the attitudes and behavior we expect of them. We expect that all members of the school community exhibit ethical behavior each day be it in the classroom, the corridors, on stage, on the athletic field, or in clubs and meetings.

Our school community identifies the following main areas, among others, as mechanisms for teaching international moral values:

STUDY OF CHARACTER AND ETHICS: Throughout the CIC curriculum students learn about positive examples of character and ethics. The learning environment encourages individual responsibility, mutual respect, cooperation and kindness toward fellow human beings. The study of these areas is not a class by itself, but a strand of learning in all classes: English, Spanish, Social Studies, Science, etc.

LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES: Activities that are physically and mentally challenging help students develop the self-awareness and self-confidence necessary for their own sense of responsibility to their needs and the needs of the community. Sports and extracurricular activities, our student government, the school’s publications, the environmental groups, and clubs all provide important experiences. At CIC, we view all of our students as leaders: first of themselves as moral individuals and second as citizen leaders of our school community.

DECISION MAKING OPPORTUNITIES: The daily experience of students, especially in an active, rich environment like CIC, provides opportunities for decision making and for the reflection on these decisions so that future decisions can be made from a maturing perspective.

COMMUNITY SERVICE: An expectation for graduation from CIC, community service is an aspect of education at CIC at all levels: Early Childhood Education, Elementary School, Middle School, and High School. The charity and environmental campaigns are one aspect of community service.

FOCUS ON INTERNATIONAL UNDERSTANDING: A global awareness of the world’s physical environment and international community is essential. International awareness is among our highest values at CIC and one which our community fosters on a daily basis.

Please review the expectations and standards for ethical citizenship that we have articulated for each member of the CIC community, as well as how the core values of our democratic society are transmitted to succeeding generations. Democracy and ethics are not transmitted by the genes. We (parents and teachers) have to work together to provide our young people with the necessary moral compass to guide their own actions.
